BIOGRAPHY
Vincent Cazeneuve (b.1977) is a French artist who primarily works with Chinese lacquer.
After completing his studies in France, he established a studio specializing in the restoration of both Western and Asian lacquerware. Since 2009, he has lived in Chongqing, China, to uncover the secrets of lacquer and the traditional craftsmanship involved.
Cazeneuve’s practice embodies a philosophy of continuous evolution, rooted in his ongoing research into lacquer culture, challenging and redefining concepts of tradition and innovation. He incorporates unconventional materials such as jute rice bags, wool felt, and leather, alongside traditional crafts like crocheting and bamboo weaving. He also integrates various art forms, including lithography, relief carving, and collage. His work embraces personal experiences and cultural memories in a language that is deceptively simple yet rich in complexity.
Vincent Cazeneuve’s work has been widely exhibited in China and abroad, including K11 Art and Culture Center, Hong Kong (2024), Chi K11 Art Space, Guangzhou (2023), Yuelai Art Museum, Chongqing (2023), Hubei Art Museu (2023), Chi K11 Art Museum, Shanghai (2022), TCCA, Xiamen (2022), XLY MoMA, Chengdu (2021), the Academy of Arts and Design of Tsinghua University, Beijing (2020), Yunnan Provincial Museum (2019), Art Museum of Sichuan Fine Arts Institute (2019), Chinese Cultural Center, Paris, France (2017), Revel IMARA, France (2013), Shanghai Biennale of Contemporary Art ( 2010), etc.
